Friars Fall To 4th-Ranked Huskies, 11-0, In Women's Soccer
September 10, 1998 Providence, R.I. - Providence, R.I. -- Senior forward Jana Carabino scored three goals and eight other Connecticut players had single goals as the fourth-ranked Huskies routed Providence College, 11-0 at PC's Glay Field. The win improves Connecticut to 4-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in BIG EAST play while Providence falls to 0-3-0 on the year and 0-1-0 in league play. Carabino got the Huskies's scoring attack started with a chip shot past PC's junior goalkeeper Shayna Ross just 8:47 into the game off an assist by Jen Carlson. Her second goal of the game came at 28:27 and made the score 4-0 as she beat Ross on a breakaway. Carabino's final goal of the game came at 76:22 of the game and gave a 9-0 lead. UConn had 34 shots in the game to the Friars' two. UConn's Anne Elisabeth Eskerud and Maria Yatrakis split the shutout with Yatrakis making two second half saves. Ross had several spectacular saves among her 17 stops for Providence. Carey Dorn, Christy McGann, Mary Frances Monroe, Jen Carlson, Margaret Teitjen, Jen Luccone, Lacey Toups and Mary Falzarano each scored single goals for the Huskies. Providence returns to action this Sunday afternoon when the Friars travel to Washington for a noon BIG EAST contest against the Georgetown Hoyas. at Providence, R.I.
