Providence Women's Soccer Suffers First Defeat of Season

The Providence College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season as it fell to Brown, 5-0, Sunday, September 9 at Brown's Stevenson Field.

Brown's senior forward Kim Lanzire (Bristol, R.I.) scored the game winner in the 23rd minute as the Bears led,1-0, at halftime. The Bears tallied four second half goals led by junior forward Caitlin Carey (Boxford, Mass.), who scored twice.

The Bears outshot the Friars, 26-10. Providence goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) made 11 saves, while Mary Jo Markle (West Chester, Pa.) and Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, R.I.) combined to make seven saves.

With the loss the Friars fell to 3-1, while the Bears improved to 1-0.

The Friars return to action on Friday, September 14 as they travel to New Haven, Conn. to face Yale.
