Box Score

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Junior Ashley Amaral (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Jill Camburn (Doylestown, Pa.) both scored to lift the Providence women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Lafayette at the Holiday Inn Express Invitational at Stony Brook. Junior goalkeeper Laura Elfers made six saves to earn her second shutout in as many games.

Amaral broke a scoreless tie in the 34th minute when she took a pass from freshman Nicole Benko (Valley Stream, N.Y.) at the top of the box and blasted a left-footed shot past a diving Mary Kate Erdman.

The Friars extended the lead in the second half when Camburn gathered a loose ball at the top of the box and deposited the ball into the lower left corner to stake Providence to a 2-0 advantage.

Providence outshot Lafayette, 17-8. With the win, PC improves to 2-0-2 on the season, while the Leopards drop to 0-2.

Providence will be in action again on Sunday, September 10, when it faces the host Stony Brook Seawolves in the second round of the Holiday Inn Express Invitational.
