HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Providence College women's team was defeated, 2-0, by Hofstra in non-conference action on Sunday, September 5 in Hempstead, N.Y. With the loss, PC falls to 1-3 on the season, while Hofstra improves to 2-1-1.

Marie Curtin (Limerick, Ireland) and Carol Leurini (Whitman, MA) each tallied one goal each to lead Hofstra. Becky Wachsberger made eight saves to record her 21st career shutout.

Freshmen goalkeepers Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Ashley Fedyshyn (Lincroft, N.J.) played 45 minutes each in net for the Friars. Elfers started the game, allowed one goal and made five saves. Fedyshyn entered the game at the start of the second half, allowed one goal and made four saves.

Hofstra outshot Providence, 16-14, and held the advantage on corner kicks, 6-1.

Providence College (1-3) will return to action on Friday, September 10 against Quinnipiac in a non-conference match-up. The game is scheduled to be played at 4:00 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
