Women's Soccer Falls in Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of New Hampshire defeated Providence College, 4-0, in the Friars' season opener in women's soccer action on Wednesday, September 2 at Providence, R.I. The Wildcats' midfielder Marky Solomon netted the first goal of the game when she tucked a shot inside the left post past PC goalkeeper Shayna Ross at 37:58. UNH struck again at 40:17 when midfielder Angeline Alexakos dribbled through the defense and rifled a shot past Ross to increase the Wildcat lead to 2-0 before halftime. UNH got insurance goals in the second half from Farrell Swain at 69:33 and Kristin Cannistraro at 70:08. Ross played a strong game in net for the Friars, recording 10 saves while facing 20 shots. New Hampshire improved its overall record to 1-0, while Providence dropped to 0-1 overall. The Friars return to action on Sunday, September 6 against Northeastern at Boston, Mass. at Providence, R.I.
