Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I.--The Providence College women's soccer team tied the University of Massachusetts 1-1 at the University of Rhode Island soccer complex.

Junior Megan Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.) took a pass from fellow junior Christie Gent (Plantation, Fla.) and one touched the ball into the back of the net in the 61st minute for PC's first goal of the season and to tie the game.

Massachusetts's Ashley Hamel passed the ball to Britt Canfield in front of the PC goal, and Canfield scored earlier in the 45th minute.

The Friars had some close chances including sophomore Nicole Benko's (Valley Stream, N.Y.) break away shot that was stopped by the UMass goalie with a great effort. Sophomore Jill Camburn also had a great look at a goal which was denied by the goalkeeper over the crossbar after a pass from sophomore Tara Ricciardi (Wayne, N.J.).

The Friars return to action on Friday September 7th from Dartmouth, New Hampshire as they battle the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 4:00 p.m.
