KINGSTON, R.I.-- The Providence College women's soccer team fell in its season opener to Rhode Island, 4-0. The loss gives the Friars a 0-1-0 record on the season, while URI moves to 1-0-0.

URI's Thorunn Jonsdottir started the scoring with a shot towards the far post in the 15th minute. In the 50th minute, Deb Nelson scored on a rebound off a shot from teammate Dora Larusdottir. Jessica Babice tacked on the third goal for the Rams on a cross from Larusdottir in the 63rd minute. Kassandra Splitter concluded the scoring for URI with a shot to the right back corner after a pass from Jonsdottir in the 78th minute.

The Friars amassed twelve shots during the game, five each from sophomores Jill Camburn (Doylestown, Pa.) and Tara Ricciardi (Wayne, N.J.). Senior goalkeeper Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.) also made six saves for Providence.

PC returns to action on Sunday, September 2nd against Massachusetts. The game will also take place at URI at 2:30 p.m.
