Providence, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by Northeastern University, 2-1, in women's soccer action on Wednesday, September 1 at Providence, R.I.

Northeastern's Kristen Kowalik tallied the first goal of the game when she broke down the right side and blasted a shot into the top left corner of the net at 18:32. The Huskies increased their lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute on an unassisted goal by Jackie Spellman. Spellman kicked in a shot from 20 yards out for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Friars kept Northeastern off the scoreboard in the second half and got within one goal when PC freshman Ashley Amaral (Cumberland, R.I.) scored off a shot from the top of the box at 58:32. The Friars continued to pressure the Huskies but were not able to score the equalizer.

Providence freshman goalkeeper Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.) made three saves in net for the Friars.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, September 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Hofstra.
