The Providence College women's soccer team defeated Holy Cross on Sunday, August 31, 1-0.

The Friars got on the board in the 22nd minute of the game when junior Lauren Ritchie (Sayville, N.Y.) scored on an assist from freshman Erin Mastrodonato (Rochester, N.Y.). It was Ritchie's first goal of the season and Mastrodonato's first career point. Senior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) made six saves as the Friars outshot the Crusaders, 10-9.

With the win, the Friars improved to 1-1-0 on the season, while the Crusaders move to 0-1-0. Providence returns to action on Friday, September 5 in their home-opener against Quinnipiac at Glay Field at 4:00 p.m.
