Providence Women's Soccer Falls to Rutgers, 5-0, In Season Opener

The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated on Friday, August 29, 5-0, in their opener against Rutgers University.

The Scarlet Knights got on the board in the 38th minute of the game when junior Carli Lloyd put the ball past senior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.). Haines had a busy afternoon as the Scarlet Knights outshot the Friars, 17-1. Rutgers scored four more goals in the second as they shutout the Friars, 5-0.

With the loss, the Friars fall to 0-1-0 on the season, while the Scarlet Knights move to 1-0-0. Providence returns to action on Sunday, August 31 against at Holy Cross at 1:00 p.m.
