Women's Soccer Bested By James Madison, 4-0

HARRISONBURG, VA. - The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by James Madison, 4-0 in the final match of the Friars' 2017 opening weekend. The Friars move to 0-2 on the season while the Dukes improve to 1-1 after an overtime loss to Boston College, 4-3 on Friday, Aug. 18.

The Friars and Dukes remained scoreless throughout the first half, finishing the first 45 minutes knotted at 0-0. The Friars were outshot by the Dukes, 5-2 in the firs half. Goalkeeper Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) recorded three saves to JMU's Olivia Miller's one in the opening half.  

In the 56th minute, JMU's Haley Crawford netted a shot past Hogan to put the Dukes on the board, 1-0. The Dukes followed up with three-consecutive goals in 67th, 70th and 77th minute to defeat the Friars, 4-0.

Hogan finished with four saves total for the Friars before giving way to Makayla Brady (West Greenwich, R.I.), who made three stops in the final 17:54 for Providence.

The Friars will be back in action on Friday, Aug. 25 against Harvard in Boston, Mass. for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
