Women's Soccer Falls to William & Mary In Season Opener

HARRISONBURG, VA. -

The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated in its season opener by William & Mary, 2-0, on Friday, Aug. 18 in Harrisonburg, Va. With the loss, the Friars move to 0-1 on the 2017 season.

William & Mary's Erin Dailey put the Tribe on the board in the 16
th minute of the opening half (1-0). The Friars held the Tribe scoreless for the remainder of the half and entered the locker room leading the Tribe in shots 7-4. Goalkeeper Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) tallied one save, while the Tribe's Samantha Johnson and Katley Briguglio combined for the shutout with three saves.

Elysse Branton netted the second goal of the contest for the Tribe in the 65
th minute to give William & Mary a 2-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining in the game.

The Tribe outshot the Friars in the second half 5-2.  Friar goalkeeper Shelby Hogan recorded three saves on the game.

The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Aug. 20 against James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. at 2 p.m.
