It was announced by the Hockey East Association that freshman forward Jessica Vella (Pickering, Ontario) was named the Bauer Rookie of the Week on Monday, December 7. Vella scored two goals, the first of her career, on Saturday, December 5 in PC's 4-1 upset over No. 3 New Hampshire in Durham, N.H. The win was the first by a Hockey East team at the Whittemore Center in Durham since the leagues creation in 2002-03. On the season, she's registered two goals and one assist for three points in four games played.
This marks the sixth weekly accolade and fourth Rookie of the Week award of the season for PC. Jessica Cohen (Anchorage, Alaska) was named Rookie of the Week twice (10/5, 10/19) and Nicole Anderson (Jordan, Minn.) earned the honor on November 16. Sophomore Ashley Cottrell (Sterling Heights, Mich.) was named Player of the Week on November 16 while classmate Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) was honored as Defensive Player of the Week on November 9.
The Friars are in action next when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. for a Hockey East contest against Boston College on Friday, December 11. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. at Conte Forum.
