PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Saturday, December 4 the Providence College women's ice hockey team presented a check for $540 to local organizations, Sojourner House and SOAR., that work to prevent domestic violence and help it's victims. The money was raised during the fifth annual Domestic Violence Day that took place at the women's ice hockey game versus Princeton on Saturday, October 23.

The idea to host Domestic Violence Day was originally thought up by players on the women's ice hockey team who took Professor Maureen Outlaw's Domestic Violence class. Professor Outlaw now works in conjunction with the team on the event each year. The head coach of the Friars, Bob Deraney, along with the captains Alyse Ruff, Jean O'Neill, Amber Yung and Genevieve Lacasse and Professor Maureen Outlaw presented a check to Dave Edmonds, the Executive Director of Sojourner House, Meghan Daniel, President of Women Will and Elizabeth Sweeney, Vice President of Women Will.
