Women's Ice Hockey Goalie Genevieve Lacasse Selected to Play for Canadian Under-22 National Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey goalie Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) has been selected to play for the Canadian Under-22 National Team in January at the MLP Cup. The event is an international tournament taking place on January 4-8 in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. Lacasse joins Cornell's Amanda Mazzotta as the only two netminder's selected.

Lacasse recently played for the Under-22's in a three-game competition against the United States in August, winning both games she started. In September, she was selected to Hockey Canada's Evaluation Camp, the organizing body's first step towards selecting the National Team each year.

The Friar junior has started every game for Providence this season, collecting a record of 11-5-1. She holds a save percentage of .939 which is currently seventh best in the nation, and a goals against average of 1.93. Also of note, Lacasse is on pace to become the Friars' all-time save leader by the end of this, her junior, season. She is currently 410 stops shy of Jana Bugden's career mark of 2,555 set in 2006.

Lacasse and the rest of the Friars will host two Hockey East rivals in a pivotal, semester ending weekend, welcoming New Hampshire Saturday at 1 p.m., and Connecticut Sunday at 2 p.m. tickets are available by calling the PC ticket office at (401) 865 GO PC.
