Nov. 27, 2012
CALGARY, Alberta. -
Former Providence College women's ice hockey goaltender, Genevieve Lacasse '12, was named to the Canadian Meco Cup roster on Thursday, Nov. 15. Lacasse will be one of two goaltenders that will be travelling with Canada's National Women's Under-22/ Development Team to Buchloe, Fussen and Ravensburg, Germany from Jan. 2-6, 2013.
The Canadian National Team last competed in the 4 Nations Tournament on Nov. 6-10, where Lacasse and the team took silver. Selections for the 2013 Meco Cup were based off Hockey Canada scouts and evaluations from previous performances with the Canadian National program.
Formerly known as the MLP Cup, the Meco Cup hosts women's national teams from Germany, Finland, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland every year to compete in a five-day international tournament. Canada is looking to bounce back from a bronze medal performance in 2012.
Lacasse has been a member of the Candian National program since 2009, when she was invited to participate in the 2009 Under-22 camp. Since then she has won gold at the World Championships during the spring of 2012 in Burlington, Vermont. She also competed in the 12 Nations Tournament (2011), Under-22 MLP Cup (2011), Hockey Canada Evaluation Camp (2010 and 2011) and was a member of the Under-22 Team (2010).
During her four year career Lacasse broke numerous school records and was the captain during her senior campaign. The four-year starter holds records for the most career victories (64), career games played (127), career saves (3,482) and career shutouts (20). She also set Hockey East records for saves in a single tournament (127) and career tournament saves (276).
