Women's Hockey Defeated, 9-1, At No. 2 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated, 9-1, by No. 2 Boston College at Kelley Rink on Nov. 25. The Friars move to 3-10-0 (3-6-0 WHEA), while the Eagles improve to 16-0-0 (10-0-0 WHEA).

Boston College took a 2-0 lead in the first period. McKenna Newkirk collected the Eagles' first goal with 15:20 remaining in the first. Haley Skarupa tallied the second BC goal at the 9:38 mark, to make it 2-0.

The Eagles notched four second-period goals, three coming within three minutes of each other. Alex Carpenter made it 3-0 at 15:57. Skarupa notched a power play goal, and her second of the game with 14:22 to go in the period. Less than a minute later, Kristyn Cappizzano tallied a shorthanded goal and gave the Eagles a 5-0 lead. The Eagles added a fourth unanswered second period goal with less than one second remaining, coming from Meghan Grieves.

Madison Myers made 17 saves and Alanna Serviss entered the game at 13:07 in the second period.

Providence struck early in the third period, with a power play goal from Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba). The junior forward was assisted by Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) and Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario).

BC notched three third-period goals. Skarupa finished her hat-trick with 11:56 left in regulation. Four minutes later, Haley McLean tallied the Eagles' eighth goal. Kenzie Kent finished the BC scoring with 2:40 remaining and solidified the 9-1 BC win.

Alanna Serviss finished the game with 26 saves.

 

 

The Friars are back in action at 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 28 at Schnieder Arena. Providence will face cross-town rival Brown University in the 21st Annual Mayor's Cup.
