Wakefield, Mass. - The Providence College women's hockey team earned Hockey East Team of the Week, announced Monday, Nov. 25. Providence snapped a seven game losing streak with a weekend sweep over Maine. Senior Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) and freshman Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) were recognized with weekly league honors for their efforts on the weekend.

Buie was named Hockey East Warrior Hockey Player of the Week for her seven point performance over the weekend. Buie tallied three assists in the Friars 8-1 win over Maine on Nov. 23, before leading the Friars with four points on two goals and two assists in Providence's 4-2 win on Nov. 24. Buie's four points matched a career-high on Sunday. It was the fifth and sixth time this season that she has collected multipoint. Her seven point weekend puts her within five points of the 100 career point mark. It is the first time this season Buie has been recognized with Player of the Week honors and she is the first since Nicole Anderson `13 earned Player of the Week on March 4, 2013.

Carels collected three goals for her first collegiate hat trick in the Friars win on Nov. 23. It marked the first time a rookie notched a hat trick since Nicole Anderson `13 did so on Oct. 16, 2009. Carels finished the weekend with a plus-three plus-minus rating and registered 10 shots on goal. Carels leads her class in scoring with 11 points on two assists and a team-best nine goals. With her third multi-goal game, Carels has now earned Rookie of the Week honors twice (10/7, 11/25).

The Friars were named team of the week after collecting their first weekend series sweep of the season. Providence's 8-1 win over Maine was a season-high in goals and the first time the Friars have notched eight or more goals since Jan. 27, 2013, when they toppled Maine 9-2. It was the first time this season the Friars have earned team of the week honors and the first since March 4, 2013, following the Friars comeback overtime victory at New Hampshire in the Hockey East quarterfinal game.
