Christina Putigna Named Pro Ambitions Rookie Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women’s ice hockey freshman forward Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) was named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, in an announcement made by the league on Monday, Nov. 23. Sophomore forward Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) and freshman goaltender Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) were named Hockey East Top Performers.

Putigna continued her point streak to five games after totaling one goal and two assists in the Friars’ two games at New Hampshire. On Nov. 21, Putigna notched an assist in the Friars’ 3-2 loss at New Hampshire. Putigna added a goal and an assist at Whittemore Center on Nov. 22 to help Providence defeat New Hampshire. The award marks Putigna’s first as rookie of the week and her third honor from Hockey East overall, after being named a top performer two consecutive weeks (Nov. 9 & Nov. 16).

Boquist scored three goals in the Friars’ two-game weekend at New Hampshire. The sophomore collected both goals for Providence in its 3-2 loss at New Hampshire. Boquist added her third goal of the weekend, and eighth goal of the season, in the Friars’ 4-1 win over the Wildcats. This is the third time Boquist has been recognized as a top performer this season (Oct. 19 & Nov. 9).

Myers posted a combined 52 saves in the weekend series versus UNH. The freshman net minder notched 31 saves on Nov. 21 and 21 saves on Nov. 22 to help the Friars to a 4-1 win. This is the third top performer honor for Myers (Oct. 19 & Nov. 9).
