Veharanta Named Athletic Republic Player of the Week by Hockey East

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey has garnered two weekly awards from Hockey East. Senior forward Laura Veharanta (La Verne, Calif.) has been named the Athletic Republic Player of the Week, while the Friars have garnered Team of the Week honors after registering a 2-0-1 record.

In three games, Veharanta collected three goals and two assists. She recorded one even strength and one short handed tally in a 9-3 victory over Yale on Tuesday. During Saturday's 3-3 tie with visiting Maine, she added another score, then contributed two assists as PC skated past the Black Bears, 7-4 Sunday.

It is the first time Veharanta has been named Player of the Week by the conference. She was named Rookie of the Week twice as a freshman.

The Friars return to action this Saturday, November 12 with a visit to Hockey East rival UConn. Face-off is at 1 p.m. and can be heard on Friars.com. Providence is back at Schneider Arena on Sunday, November 13 with a 2 p.m. start against New Hampshire. Tickets are available by calling (401) 865 GO PC or by visiting Friars.com.
