Women's Ice Hockey Goaltender Genevieve Lacasse Named Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Nov. 1, 2010

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey junior Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) has been named Hockey East's Co-Defensive Player of the Week for games held the weekend of October 29 through October 31. It is the sixth time the goaltender has won the award in her career, and her second such honor this season.

Lacasse stopped 40 shots against fifth-ranked Boston University on Friday (October 29), playing a key role in the 2-2 tie. She was challenged often, including a partial breakaway in the first period and three quality chances in overtime.

Lacasse is now 6-2-1 on the season with two shutouts. She boasts a goals against average of just 1.64, and a save percentage of .949 that is third best in the nation.

The Friars now have won four weekly-awards in the first five weeks of their season. Freshman Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) earned the conference's Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week award on October 4, junior Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn.) was named the Pure Hockey Player of the Week on October 11, and Lacasse earned her first Defensive Player of the Week nod on October 18. She shares this week's award with Lindsey Minton of UNH.

Providence plays tomorrow (November 2) at Yale. Face-off is at 7 p.m. The Friars then travel to Boston University on Saturday (Nov. 6) for a 3 p.m. start. The next home game is Sunday (Nov. 7) when Maine visits Schneider Arena at 2 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Providence College ticket office at 401-865-GOPC.
