Women's Ice Hockey Hosts St. Cloud In Back-To-Back Games

The Providence College women's ice hockey team hosts the St. Cloud State Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m. The Friars head into the match up with a 3-3-0 overall record and a two game winning streak.

Women's Hockey Ties St. Cloud State, 4-4
Women's hockey (5-7-8, 4-3-4-2 WHEA) traveled to St. Cloud, Minn. to compete in the Easton Holiday Showcase. PC faced tournament host St. Cloud State (8-10-3, 5-9-3 WCHA) at the National Hockey Center and came away with a 4-4 tie. The Friars fell in the eventual shootout, 1-0. Alyse Ruff (Tualatin, Ore.), Abby Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.) and Jennifer Friedman (San Gabriel, Calif.) had a goal and an assist each while Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) made 35 saves on the night.

Last week the Friars swept Vermont in a two-game home series, 4-3 and 4-1. Twelve different players notched points during the back-to-back series. Freshman Molly Illikainen (Grand Rapids, Minn.) tallied one goal and one assist on the weekend and now leads the team in scoring with six points on three goals and three assists. During Saturday's game freshman Courtney Kukowski (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal to get the Friars off to a 1-0 lead. Freshman goaltender Allie Morse (Cottage Grove, Minn.) earned her first collegiate win with 11 saves on 14 shots on Saturday, Oct. 20. The Friars scored four consecutive goals to win the game 4-1 on Sunday, Oct. 21.

The Huskies enter the weekend with a 2-4-0 overall record. St. Cloud last played No. 10 North Dakota in back-to-back games. The Huskies fell 1-0 and 3-1 to North Dakota. St. Cloud has been outshot 219-126 and outscored 16-6 in six games. Leading the team in scoring is senior Alex Nelson with three points on one goal and two assists.

The Friars head into the two-game series with St. Cloud with an all-time series record of 4-0-1. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 2, 2010 when the Friars and Huskies tied, 4-4, in St. Cloud, Minn. Providence holds a 2-0-0 record against the Huskies at home and has outscored the Huskies 27-10. Providence last faced St. Cloud at home in 2002 when the Friars defeated the Huskies 7-1.

This weekend the Friars will be hosting a Club Challenge during the game on Saturday, Oct. 27. Providence will also be holding their annual Face-off Against Domestic Violence Game Sunday, Oct. 28. The Friars will also be holding a Skate with the Friars in your Halloween costumes proceeding Sunday's match-up.
