Women's Hockey Opens Hockey East Play Against Vermont And Northeastern

FOR STARTERS...

  • Providence will host Vermont at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Schneider Arena.
  • The Friars travel to Northeastern for a 2:00 p.m. gametime on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass.
  • Both games will have live stats and streaming as well as play by play coverage that can be accessed links on the left.

  • Providence is 1-1 in Hockey East openers against Vermont.

a weekend of firsts...

  • Danielle Hardy notched her first career goal on Saturday, Oct. 17 against Colgate.
  • The Hardy goal is also Providence’s second power-play tally of the season. Madison Sansone scored the Friars’ first power-play goal against Wisconsin (10/3).
  • Christina Putigna tallied her first assist of the season on the Hardy goal.
  • Emily Landry recorded her first collegiate point, with an assist on Brooke Boquist’s first goal of the season against Colgate (10/17).
  • Boquist registered her first two point game of the season against Colgate (10/17) with a goal and an assist.
  • Christina Putigna tallied her first assist of the season on the Hardy goal.
  • Madison Myers saw her first minutes in net for the Friars against Colgate, making 20 saves.
  • Myers earned her first start against Syracuse (10/18) and posted 34 saves.
  • Boquist & Myer’s efforts over the weekend earned them Hockey East Top Performers accolades.


SCOUTING THE catamounts ...

  • The Catamounts are 0-6-0 on the 2015-16 season.
  • The game will mark Vermont’s first Hockey East game.
  • The Catamounts are led by Sophomore Bridget Baker (1-1-2).
  • Six Catamounts have recorded at least one point.
  • Junior Madison Litchfield has spent 238:25 minutes in net, posting 104 saves and an .889 save percentage.
  • Sophomore Molly Depew has seen the ice for 120:00 minutes, making 59 saves and recording an .894 save percentage.
  • Vermont will look to capitalize on the power-play, having been unable to convert with 15 power play opportunities.


All Time series history...

  • Providence leads the series 26-11-1, with a 0.697 win percentage.
  • The Friars and Catamounts met last in Burlington, Vermont winning by a score of 7-3.
  • The Friars won the first 16 meetings between the two teams, until the Catamounts captured their first victory in 2008.


SCOUTING THE Huskies...

  • Northeastern holds a 4-1-1 overall record on the season and will open Hockey East play against Boston University, prior to the game against the Friars.
  • Northeastern is ranked 10, according to the USCHO.com poll (Oct. 19).
  • The Huskies are led by senior Kendall Coyne, who has notched 10 goals and five assists. Coyne has also added three of the Huskies’ eight power play goals.
  • Freshman netminder Brittany Bugalski has seen the most time for Northeasern, seeing 294:02 minutes and posting 138 saves.
  • Northeastern’s power play has gone 8-of-22 (36.4%) while its penalty kill is 22-of-28 (78.6 %)

  • Providence leads the all-time series 61-49-11.
  • The Friars are 28-20-2 when playing at Northeastern.
  • Last time, Providence lost to the Huskies, 2-1 in overtime, where Friars Brooke Boquist and Kendra Goodrich each registered an assist on the lone Providence goal.


Friars against ranked opponents...

  • Providence faced No. 3 Wisconsin to open the 2015-16 season in San Jose, Calif.
  • The Friars fell in both games to Wisconsin.
