PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Former Providence College women's ice hockey goaltender Genevieve Lacasse '12 was named to the Canadian 4 Nations roster Wednesday, Oct. 10. Lacasse will be one of three goaltenders that will travel with the Canadian National Team to Kerava and Tikkurila, Finland this November, 6-10.
"I feel priviledged and honored to be able to represent my country. It will be a great experience and opportunity," Lacasse shared.
The Canadian National Team hosted the Canadian Fall Festival Sept. 22-29. The festival is where Lacasse and teammates were selected to represent their country at the 2012 4 Nations Cup. Lacasse was one of four goaltenders invited to attend the camp. The 2012 4 Nations Cup will help to decide the team that will represent Canada at the 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship to be held in Ottawa, Ontario during April 2-9. Former Friar Karen Thatcher '06 will also be in Finland, playing for Team USA.
"Getting to play against Thatcher, while we are both representing our countries will be awesome," Lacasse elaborated.
During her four year career Lacasse broke numerous school records and was the captain during her senior campaign. The four-year starter holds records for the most career victories (64), career games played (127), career saves (3,482) and career shutouts (20). She also set Hockey East records for saves in a single tournament (127) and career tournament saves (276).
Canada will play its first game at the 2012 4 Nations Cup in Kerava, Finland at the Kerava Areena against hosting nation Finland on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 12:00 p.m. ET.
