Women's Ice Hockey Forward Kate Bacon Named Hockey East Pure Hockey Player of the Week

Oct. 11, 2010

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey junior Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn.) has been named Hockey East's Pure Hockey Player of the Week for games held the weekend of October 8 through October 10.

Bacon had a tremendous weekend against two ECAC foes. On Saturday (10/9) she netted her first career hat trick, including one power-play goal and one short-handed strike, to lead the Friars to a 6-1 victory over visiting St. Lawrence.

On Sunday (10/10), Bacon scored her fourth goal of the weekend, an unassisted tally that helped PC beat Clarkson, 5-0, at Schneider Arena. On the season, Bacon now has five goals through four games.

It is the first time the forward has won the award. The last Friar to be recognized with Player of the Week honors was co-captain Jean O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.) on February 22, 2010.

The Friars have won a weekly award in each of the first two weeks of their season. Freshman Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) earned the conference's Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week award in week one.

PC hits the road for a pair this weekend. The team visits Syracuse Friday (10/15) for 7 p.m. face-off, and Colgate on Saturday for a 3 p.m. start. Providence returns home on Friday, October 22, to host RPI at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Providence College ticket office at 401-865-GOPC.
