Women's Hockey Head Coach Deraney Named Assistant Coach For USA National Team

Deraney will be an assistant coach with Team USA at the Four Nations Cup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's hockey Head Coach Bob Deraney has been named an assistant coach with Team USA for the 2014 Four Nations Cup.

The Four Nations Cup is an annual tournament that has been held since 1996 in a variety of forms (previously the Three Nations Cup). The United States will compete against Canada, Sweden and Finland in this year's installment. USA has captured five titles (1997, 2003, 2008, 2011-12) and finished second 11 times. Last year the U.S. finished third in the tournament. The United Stated has an overall record of 38-5-4-22-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) in 70 Three/Four Nations Cup games.

The tournament will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 4 against Finland and run through Saturday, Nov. 8.

In his time at Providence, Deraney has guided the Friars to three Hockey East titles, six Hockey East finals appearances, one ECAC Championship and one NCAA tournament appearance. He has also mentored five All-Americans including Sara DeCosta (1999 and 2000), Jessica Tabb (2001), Kelli Halcisak (2003 and 2004), Kristen Gigliotti (2006) and Karen Thatcher (2006). In addition, Deraney has coached five Olympians (DeCosta, Laurie Baker, Mari Pehkonen, Thatcher and Genevieve Lacasse). In 2008, Deraney was on the coaching staff for the U-18 USA Women's National Team that won the gold medal at the inaugural IIHF World Women's U-18 Championships. Recently, Deraney was an assistant coach on the USA Women's U-22 team that competed in a three-game series against Canada at the 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Calgary, Canada. The U.S. went 3-0-0 in the series.
