Providence College Women's Ice Hockey Announces 2012-13 Team Captains

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team announced the team captains for the 2012-13 season including Cohen, Vella, Anderson and Buie. Three seniors and one junior will represent the team on and off the ice. The four players were nominated and voted for by their teammates.

    Seniors Jessica Cohen (Anchorage, Alaska) and Jessica Vella (Pickering, Ontario) will wear the "C" on their jerseys as co-captains. Joining them is senior Nicole Anderson (Jordan, Minn.) and junior Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.), who were selected as assistant captains.

    Cohen played in all 37 games after a move back to defense during the beginning of the 2011-12 season when the team suffered from injuries. She contributed nine points on three goals and six assists and finished with a plus minus rating of plus 11.

    Vella placed fifth on the team in scoring during the 2011-12 season with 18 points on nine goals and nine assists. She was tied fifth on the team with nine goals and tallied a multi-point game with a goal and an assist against New Hampshire (1/13).

    After returning from injury Anderson played in 24 games during the 2011-12 season and tallied ten points on four goals and six assists. She had a career-best four points at Union (11/27).

    Buie played in all 37 games during her sophomore year and placed fourth on the team in scoring with 26 points on 11 goals and 15 assists. She was tied for second on the team with 15 assists and was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team during her freshman season.

    The Friars are back in action this Friday, Oct. 5, as they take on non-conference foe Bemidji State in their regular season home opener. The game will take place at 7:00 p.m. in Schneider Arena.
