Women's Hockey Opens Regular Season At Mercyhurst

AT MERCYHURST
  • The Friars will begin the 2014-15 regular season with a road series against the Mercyhurst Lakers on Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 4. Friday's game will start at 7:00 p.m. while Saturday's game will begin at 5:00 p.m. 
LAST MEETING
  • Providence split last year's series against No. 10 Mercyhurst, 1-1.
  • The Friars lost the first game, 5-0, but battled back to win the second game, 3-2.
  • Senior Haley Frade scored the game-winning goal in the 3-2 win. Junior Sarah Bryant recorded a career-high 47 saves in the game. 
ALL-TIME RECORD
  • Providence is 4-12-0 all-time vs. Mercyhurst.
SCOUTING THE LAKERS
  • The Lakers are coming off of a 2013-14 campaign in which they reached the Frozen Four, losing to the eventual NCAA Champion, Clarkson, 5-1.
  • Mercyhurst finished the season 24-9-4 and captured its 13th straight College Hockey America title.
  • The Lakers currently rank ninth in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and the USCHO.com Polls.
  • Mercyhurst returns CHA Player of the Year Christine Bestland, CHA Best Defenseman of the Year Molly Byrne and CHA Best Defensive Forward Shelby Bram.
  • Head Coach Michael Sisti earned CHA Coach of the Year honors last season. Sisti has led the Lakers to 10-straight NCAA appearances, an NCAA record.
  • On Saturday, Sept. 27 the Lakers 
  • faced the Pursuit of Excellence in an exhibition game, winning 7-0.
  • Jenna Dingeldein netted a hat trick for Mercyhurst.
FRIARS DROP EXHIBITION GAME AGAINST MONTREAL STARS
  • The Friars squared off against the Montreal Stars of the CWHL in an exhibition game on Saturday, Sept. 27, with Montreal winning, 4-1, at Schneider Arena.
  • The Montreal roster included 2014 Olympians from Team Canada (Caroline Ouellette) and  Team USA (Julie Chu).
  • Senior Haley Frade scored the lone goal for the Friars. She was assisted by sophomore Cassidy Carels.
  •  Juniors Sarah Bryant and Allie Morse split time between the pipes. Bryant registered 13 saves while Morse tallied 10.
  • Freshmen Blair Parent (Blaine, Maine), Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) and Madison Sansone (Lockport, N.Y.) saw their first action in a Friar uniform along with sophomore Lauren Klein (Shoreview, Minn.).

Women's Hockey Edges Past No. 10 Mercyhurst For First Home Win Of The Season
A 3-2 win over No. 10 Mercyhurst University gave the Providence College women's ice hockey team their first home of the season on Sunday, Oct. 13 at Schneider Arena. Following the weekend split with Mercyhurst, the Friars record improves to 2-2-0 overall.
