Providence, R.I. - The Providence College women's hockey team announced the captains for the 2009-10 season. Senior defenseman Colleen Martin (Woburn, Mass.) has been voted team captain. Junior forward Jean O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.) will represent the Friars as the assistant captain.
Martin has been a constant presence on the blue-line over the past three seasons. She finished the 2008-09 with a career-high seven assists. Last season, she led the team with +7 mark on the plus/minus scale. For her career, Martin has 15 points on three goals and 12 assists.
O'Neill was voted the assistant captain after tallying five goals and three assists for eight points last season. Over her two seasons with Providence, she has recorded 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points.
The Friars begin the regular season with a pair of league contests at home against Maine this weekend. Game one is set for Friday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m. The second game will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3. Both games will be held in Schneider Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for youth (15 and under) and seniors (60 and older) and can be purchased at the door (cash only). Tickets can also be purchased at Friars.com.
