Providence, R.I. - The No. 9 Providence College women's hockey team was picked to finish third in the Hockey East preseason poll, as voted by league coaches. The poll was released at the league's annual media day held at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, Mass. on September 29. Defending champion New Hampshire (52 points) was favored to win the league, receiving the top honors and four first-place votes. Boston College was chosen to finish second receiving 47 points along with two first-place votes. Providence received two first-place votes with 43 points to round out the top three.

Providence concluded the 2007-08 season 16-16-4. The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Preseason Women's College Hockey Poll placed the Friars at No. 9. Providence defeated Brampton Junior Thunder, 4-1, in an exhibition game played at Schneider Arena this past Sunday. Junior Jackie Duncan (Kitchener, Ontario) led the way with two goals.

The Friars begin the regular season at home in a weekend series against Ohio State on Friday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m. The second game will begin at 4:00 p.m. in Schneider Arena on Saturday, October 4.
