Women’s Hockey Picked Fourth in Hockey East Preseason Poll

Sept. 26, 2017

BOSTON, Mass. -

The Providence College women’s hockey team was selected to finish fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, as announced by the league on Tuesday (Sept. 26).

The Friars, who received 41 points, were picked to finish behind Boston College (63), Northeastern (56) and Boston University (51). The Eagles, who went 17-4-3 en route to the regular season title last year, received seven first place votes. The Huskies were the only other team to garner first place votes, with two.

Rounding out the poll were Vermont (33), UConn (27), New Hampshire (26), Merrimack (16) and Maine (11).

Providence finished last year with a 17-17-3 overall record (11-10-3 Hockey East). The Friars hosted the best-of-three Hockey East Quarterfinals against Vermont, eventually falling in three games. It marked the team's first time hosting a playoff series since the 2011-12 season. The Friars also earned 17 wins for the first time since the 2010-11 season.

The Friars open the 2017-18 season on Sept. 29 when they travel to Union College. The game is set for 6:00 p.m. in Schnectady, N.Y.
