Women’s Ice Hockey To Play Exhibition Against Whitby Jr. Wolves

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence College women’s ice hockey team will face the Whitby Jr. Wolves at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27 at Schneider Arena.

The Friars finished the 2014-15 season with a 6-25-4 overall record. Among the Providence returners, two student-athletes to watch for are junior Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) and sophomore Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario). Carels recorded 21 points during the 2014-15 season, while Boquist totaled 10 points in her rookie season.

Minutes-played leader Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.) and junior Lauren Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) will also return to the Friar line up as the anchors of the Providence defensive core. The Friars also add seven freshmen to their roster, including one goalie, one defenseman, and five forwards.

The Whitby Jr. Wolves play in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), the premier junior women’s hockey league in Canada. The Wolves are playing in three exhibition games against Hockey East opponents. They began the trip with a 4-2 loss at Merrimack College on Sept. 25 and a 5-1 loss at UConn on Sept. 26.
