Sept. 19, 2014

CALGARY, Alberta - Former Providence College women's ice hockey standout Genevieve Lacasse '12 was selected as one of 58 players to attend Canada's National Women's Team Fall Festival, as announced on Thursday Sept. 18. The camp will take place on Sept. 22-28 at WinSport's Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Lacasse was one of six goaltenders chosen for the camp, which will serve as an evaluation method for Canada's National Team Head Coach Doug Derraugh and his coaching staff. Following the festival, players will be observed at international games, including the 2014 Four Nations Cup in Kamloops, B.C., as well as each player's club team during 2014-15. Players that make the final cut will represent Canada at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship in Malmo, Sweden in April of 2015.

Last winter, Lacasse earned a gold medal with Team Canada in the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Lacasse was the eighth Friar to win a gold medal.

At Providence, Lacasse broke many records and was the captain during her senior season. The four-year starter holds records for the most career victories (64), career games played (127), career saves (3,482) and career shutouts (20). She also set Hockey East records for saves in a single tournament (127) and career tournament saves (276).
