Genevieve Lacasse

Aug. 29, 2011

VIERUMÄKI, FINLAND - Providence College goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ontario) made 44 saves and was brilliant in a shootout to lead Team Canada past rival Team USA, 4-3 in exhibition action.

Lacasse was inserted off the bench two minutes into the first period, after the Americans had taken a quick, 2-0 lead.

Lacasse then stopped 44 of the 45 shots she faced, including 15 in the third period and all three in overtime, helping to send the contest to a shootout with the score knotted, 3-3.

In the shootout, four of the five Team USA shooters failed to beat the Friar senior.

The exhibition was played in conjunction with the IIHF's 12 Nation's Tournament in Finland. It marks the first time Lacasse has faced the defending World Champions.

Both teams will resume their tournament schedules tomorrow, with Canada facing the host Fins while the United States skates with Sweden.
