Genevieve Lacasse

Aug. 28, 2011

VIERUMÄKI, FINLAND - Providence College senior goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ontario) has made her debut for the Canadian National Team, shutting out Slovakia, 11-0, in the 12 Nations women's tournament.

Lacasse stopped all eight shots she faced, including five in the third period. The Canadians, meanwhile, peppered the Slovakian goal with 73.

Lacasse has now collected four consecutive shutouts in international competition this year. She posted three blankings in an Under-22 tournament, the MLP Cup, in January.

The 12 nations cup features an eight-team competition in Finland, including the defending Olympic champion Canadians and the world champion US, while pitting four other countries in a smaller tourney in France. The goal is the continued growth of the women's game internationally.

Canada plays the US on Sunday.
