BLAINE, Minn. - Current Providence College Women's Ice Hockey Assistant Coach and former Friar Karen Thatcher is taking part in the 2011 USA Hockey Women's National Festival. The session in Blaine, Minn. is serving as a selection camp for the US Women's Select Team that will compete in the IIHF Eight Nations Tournament in Finland later this month.

Thatcher is one of 79 players invited to the camp.

The Festival is the latest in a long line of national team appearances on Thatcher's resume. Most recently, the Franklin, Mass. native was named to the preliminary roster for the Team USA contingent in the 2011 World Championships. Last year, she was a driving force in the US Olympic Team's silver-medal winning performance, contributing six points in five games in Vancouver.

A 2006 graduate of Providence College, Thatcher is one of the most decorated players in Friar history. Her collegiate resume includes two Hockey East Championships, an All-America honor, and a Hockey East Co-Player of the Year accolade.
