July 26, 2016

CALGARY, Alberta -

Providence College women’s hockey sophomore forward Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) has been invited to Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp in Calgary.

Putigna has been selected to the training camp after playing her first season at Providence in 2015-16. Putigna finished second among her teammates in points, with 28. The freshman forward scored 11 goals and tallied 17 assists. Putigna tallied eight power-play goals, which ranked fourth in the NCAA and second in Hockey East.

Putigna recorded six multi-point games, and enjoyed an eight-game point streak. She was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month for November, Rookie of the Week twice (Nov. 23 and Nov. 30), and was a Hockey East All-Rookie Team selection. Putigna finished third among Hockey East freshmen in scoring (7-11-18).

Putigna is one of 43 candidates to make a 23-player squad that will play in a three-game series against the United States’ Women’s Under-22 Select Team. At the selection camp, the players will be split into two teams, which will participate in practices, scrimmages, off-ice training, fitness testing and high-performance classroom sessions.
