Former Women's Ice Hockey Goaltender Kathy Sloan McCourt Passes At Age 42

    POTSDAM, N.Y. -

    Former Providence College women’s ice hockey goaltender Kathy “Sloan” McCourt ’93 passed away unexpectedly at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Sloan was a member of the women’s ice hockey team from 1990-93. The memorial service was held on Saturday, July 13 at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam, N.Y.

    Following her first season (1990-91), Sloan helped lead the Friars to two-consecutive ECAC Championships (’92 & ’93). Sloan played alongside some of Providence’s greatest Friars including, Cammi Granato ’93, Stephanie O’Sullivan ’95, Vicki Movessian ’94 and Chris Bailey ’94.

    Following her collegiate career, Sloan worked as a manager of talent acquisition and deployment at EMD Serono in Rockland, Mass. The New York native married Sean P. McCourt on July 3, 2004 and, with whom she had three children, Jack William McCourt (5 years old), Claire Sloan McCourt (2 years old), and Will Joseph McCourt (3 months old).

    In lieu of flowers, to honor the memory of Kathryn “Sloan” McCourt, a trust has been set up for Kathryn's children. Donations are welcome in place of flowers.     There will be a mass of Christian Burial held at St. Mary's Church in Charlestown, Mass. on Wednesday, July 17 at 11 am with burial to follow the service at the Milton Cemetery in Milton, Mass. The Dolan Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements in Massachusetts.
