PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Associate Vice President/Athletics Director Robert G. Driscoll, Jr. announced that Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach Bob Deraney has signed a multi-year contract extension to remain with the Friars through 2013. Driscoll made the announcement on Tuesday, July 15. Deraney, the fifth head coach in program history at PC, embarks on his 10th with the Friars in 2008-09. During Deraney's tenure at Providence College, he has posted a very impressive 173-113-35 record, which second all-time in wins for the program. "We are pleased to extend the contract of Coach Deraney," said Driscoll. "The program has flourished under his guidance and we look forward to continued success, playing within one of the toughest conferences in the country." Deraney also has many notable highlights during his Friar career. These highlights include Providence College's best record ever in a single season at 24-6-6 in the HOCKEY EAST's inaugural season in 2002. He led Providence College to their highest ranking ever to conclude a season in the USA Today Poll, ranking fifth in the nation in 2003. He was behind the bench for the program's 500th victory all time, as well as his 100th victory as a head coach in 2004. Deraney's most impressive achievement came in 2005 when he brought the Friars to their first-ever NCAA tournament. Other coaching accomplishments include three Mayor's Cup championships, four-consecutive conference titles (2002-05), as well as five conference title game appearances in the past six seasons. Not only has Deraney put up impressive numbers as a head coach at Providence College, but he also gets his players to believe in the Friar system.
