Seniors Victoria Virtue (Walpole, Mass.) and Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) will serve as the Providence College women’s hockey team captains for the 2014-15 season. They will wear the “C” on their jerseys as co-captains. Joining them as assistant captains will be graduate student Stephanie Demars (Vermontville, N.Y.) and junior Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.).
Virtue has played 97 games in the Friar jersey as a defenseman. She has notched a total of four goals and 10 assists for 14 points throughout her career as a Friar. During the 2013-14, season Virtue finished tied for second on the team with a plus-minus rating of plus-one. She also was awarded the team’s Unsung Hero Award at the end of the 2013-14 season.
Hanrahan has played a total of 108 games as a forward throughout her career as a Friar. In the past three years, she has scored 32 goals and had 19 assists for 51 points. During the 2013-14 season, Hanrahan was a Hockey East Weekly Top Performer, twice (Oct. 28 and Dec. 2), led the team in shots with 141 and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
DeMars has played a total of 75 games for the Friars as a forward. She has recorded three goals and three assists for six points. DeMars tallied her first collegiate goal this past season against seventh-ranked Clarkson (11/15), and was named the team’s Most Improved Player for the 2013-14 season.
Romanchuk has played in a total of 71 games the past two seasons as a defenseman. She has notched seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points. Romanchuk finished the 2013-14 season tied for the team-lead in game-winning goals with three. She also was named Hockey East Player of the Week on Jan. 6 and earned Hockey East Weekly Top-Performer honors on Jan. 26. Romanchuk received the team’s Seventh Player Award for her efforts during the 2013-14 season.
