PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Sixteen student-athletes from the Providence College women's ice hockey program have been named to the 2012 Hockey East All-Academic team, more than any other program in the conference. Connecticut and Maine had the next largest amount with 12 award winners each.
In addition, rising seniors Jessica Cohen (Anchorage, Alaska) and Jessica Vella (Pickering, Ontario) have been named to the Academic All-Star team for having two of the highest grade point averages at their respective position. Cohen earned a 3.97 GPA during the school-year. Vella scored a 3.87.
To be recognized on the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above each semester.
Joining Cohen and Vella as Friar All-Academic team members are:
Graduated seniors Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn.), Ashley Cottrell (Sterling Heights, Mich.), Jennifer Friedman (San Gabriel, Calif.), Christie Jensen (Delta, B.C.), Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ontario) and Laura Veharanta (La Verne, Calif.);
Rising seniors Nicole Anderson (Jordan, Minn.) and Emily Groth (Monona,Wisc.);
Rising juniors Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.), Rebecca Morse (Westfield, N.J.), Maggie Pendleton (Woodbury, Minn.) and Nina Riley (Lexington, Mass.);
Rising sophomores Haley Frade
(Marion, Mass.) and Allison Micheletti
(Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).
