June 5, 2008

It was announced on Thursday, June 5 that senior Kelli Doolin (Dorchester, Mass.), juniors Katy Beach (Cleveland, Ohio), Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine Minn.), Mari Pehkonen (Tampere, Finland), Brittany Simpson (Barrie, Ont.), along with freshman Alyse Ruff (Tualatin, Ore.) were named to the 2008 HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team. In order to qualify for the team, each student-athlete had to achieve a grade-point-average of at least 3.0 in each of the two academic periods in which she was actively competing for the Friars.

Ciarletta, Pehkonen and Simpson are each making their second straight appearance on the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team. 2008 marked the first year that Beach and Doolin made the squad, while Ruff made it following her first year of collegiate competition. In six seasons of play in women's HOCKEY EAST, the Friars have combined for 41 individual All-Academic team nominations.

All told, the 2008 women's HOCKEY EAST All-Academic squad is comprised of 81 student-athletes from Boston College, Boston University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Providence College, and the University of Vermont. The Top Scholar-Athlete Award (highest GPA for the season) went to Maine senior forward Pam Patterson (Miramichi, N.B.) for the second straight season.
