Women's Ice Hockey Announces 2015-16 Schedule

, R.I. -- Providence College Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach Bob Deraney announced the 2015-16 schedule. The Friars will play a total of 24 Hockey East conference games and 11 non-conference contests. Providence will host 19 home games in Schneider Arena and have 14 away games as well as a season-opening series against Wisconsin in San Jose, Calif.

The 2015-16 schedule includes non-conference games against Colgate, Syracuse, Brown, RIT, Robert Morris, and Union. The regular season also will include Hockey East contests versus Vermont, Northeastern, Maine, New Hampshire, Boston College, Merrimack, Connecticut and Boston University.

Providence will open the season with an exhibition game in Schneider Arena against the Whitby Junior Wolves AA team on Sept. 27 at 1:00 pm. Next, the Friars will travel to San Jose, Calif. to play the Wisconsin Badgers with back-to-back games on Oct. 2 and 3. The Badgers have not played the Friars since 2009 and the teams will be meeting for just the seventh and eighth time.

The season continues with the Friars hosting home games against Colgate on Oct. 17 and Syracuse on Oct. 18. The Friars open their Hockey East regular-season schedule on Oct. 24 with a game against Vermont, before travelling to play at Northeastern on Sunday, Oct. 25. The Friars then head north to play the Maine Black Bears on Friday, Oct. 30. The Friars host their next conference game on Nov. 7 against New Hampshire. The team then travels for five away games against Hockey East opponents including Vermont (Nov. 13-14), New Hampshire (Nov. 21-22) and Boston College (Nov. 25).

Providence will then host two non-conference contests against Brown (Nov. 28) and Union (Dec. 1). Providence and Brown will play in the 21st annual Mayor's Cup Schneider Arena. The Friars will then challenge two Hockey East teams including Boston University on Dec. 8 and Merrimack on Dec. 11. The last non-conference games include two games at Robert Morris (Jan. 2-3) and two games at home versus RIT (Jan. 8-9).

Providence will then play 13 conference games to close at the regular season. The Friars host two home games versus Northeastern on Jan. 13 and Connecticut on Jan. 16. The Friars then play Connecticut in Starrs, Conn. on Jan. 17. Providence then travels to face the Boston University Terriers (Jan. 23). The final faceoff between the Terriers will be hosted by Providence on Jan. 24.The Friars then play a series at home against Maine (Jan. 30-31).

The Friars open February with a home conference game against Northeastern. The Friars continue the season with two away games facing Connecticut (Feb. 7) and Merrimack (Feb. 13). The Friars meet up with Merrimack again at home on Feb. 14. The last home series of the season is against the Boston College Eagles, who finished first in Hockey East last season. The Friars challenge the Eagles at home on Feb. 20 and conclude the regular season on Feb. 21 facing the Eagles yet again.

The 2016 Hockey East playoff format will include an on campus, quarterfinal round (Feb. 27) and then the Hockey East semifinal (March 5) and championship games (March 6). The times and locations will be announced at a later date.
