Women's Hockey Announces 2015-16 Team Captains

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's hockey team announced its captains for the 2015-16 season on Saturday, April 25 at the team's end of the year banquet. Senior Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.) will serve as the team captain, while seniors Courtney Kukowski (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Brittney Thunstrom (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and junior Lauren Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) will serve as the team's assistant captains.

Romanchuk has played in every game of her career with 106 appearances on defense. She has compiled nine goals and 26 assists for 35 points. Four of her nine goals have been game winners. She also has recorded 87 blocks. On Saturday (April 25) Romanchuk earned the team's Unsung Hero Award after tying for the team-lead this past season in defensive scoring with nine points on two goals and seven assists.

Kukowski has played in a total of 101 games as a forward and has registered seven goals and seven assists for 14 points. She has also had 30 blocks, defensively.

Thunstrom has made 104 appearances in her career as a forward and has scored18 points on five goals and 13 assists. She has scored two game-winning goals and one short-handed goal in her career. Defensively, she compiled 58 blocks.

Klein enters her second season with the Friars after transferring from RIT following the 2013-14 season. For her career, the defender has played in 66 games with two goals and five assists for seven points. As a Friar she has played in 28 games with one goal and one assist for two points. She also had 11 blocks on the season. Klein earned the team's Most Improved Player Award for her efforts during the 2014-15 season.
