PROVIDENCE R.I. -- Providence College senior ice hockey stand-out, Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) was named the Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics For Women (R.I.A.I.A.W.) Distinguished Student-Athlete of the Year. Zimmerman will be honored at a reception, held at the Johnson & Wales Inn in Seekonk, Mass. on Wednesday, May 4 at 5:00 p.m.

Zimmerman, the team's second leading scorer with 57 points (26 goals, 31 assists), earned HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week once, the ITECH "Three Stars" Award, and her third straight league All-Star selection. Zimmerman ended her four-year stint at Providence in ninth place on PC's career points list with 162 points. She eclipsed the all-time penalty minutes early in the season and finished with 271 career minutes. Her career-high 57 points this season tied her in 14th with PC's single-season points leader with Stephanie O'Sullivan (1991-92). Zimmerman, the 2005 HOCKEY EAST Tournament MVP, was also named to the New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star team.

Zimmerman is a studio art major and is the daughter of Albert and Deborah Zimmerman of Grosse Point, Mich.
