PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Hockey Canada announced on Thursday that Providence College freshman netminder Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ont.) has been chosen as one of the 47 players to attend the women's under-22 strength and conditioning/skating camp. The camp will be held from April 30 to May 3 at Norma Bush Arena in Calgary.
The 47 players will be put through fitness testing and skating drills over the course of the four-day camp. Hockey Canada also will use the camp as an opportunity to get to know the players and give them off-ice training techniques, as well as proper nutritional guidance. Using the 2008-09 on-ice evaluation and performance at this camp, Hockey Canada officials will make their selections for an August under-22 camp, which will lead to selections for the National Women's Under-22 Team for the 2009-10 season.
Lacasse earned the opportunity to perform with Team Canada after a sensational freshman campaign. She finished the season with a 15-11-1 record to go along with a 1.94 goals against average and a .933 save percentage. Lacasse took home numerous awards at the Hockey East banquet as she was named Rookie of the Year, Goaltending Champion, a Second Team All-Star and a member of the All-Rookie Team.
