PC Women Earn New England Hockey Writers All-Star Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College sophomore goaltender Sara DeCosta of Warwick, R.I. and sophomore forward Jess Tabb of Springfield, Mass. earned New England Hockey Writers All-Star honors. DeCosta and Tabb received their honor at the New England Hockey Writers Association Banquet on April 14 in Saugus, Mass.

DeCosta, who received ECAC First-Team All-League accolades and Second-Team All-America honors in 1998-99, finished the season with a 14-11-3 mark, a 2.32 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. After earning ECAC Honorable Mention honors as a freshman in 1996-97, DeCosta took a break from her studies last year to help the U.S. Olympic Team capture the gold medal at the 1998 Nagano Olympic Games.

DeCosta is the daughter of Frank and Nancy DeCosta. Prior to attending Providence, she played for Toll Gate High School.

Tabb, who earned 1998 ECAC Rookie of the Year honors and 1999 ECAC Second-Team All-League accolades, was named a New England Hockey Writers All-Star after leading the Friars in scoring with 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists) this season. She also led the team in goals and was tied for the team lead in power-play goals (four) and game-winning goals (four). In 66 career games, Tabb has scored 41 goals and notched 35 assists.

Tabb is the daughter of Gerald and Martha Tabb. Prior to attending Providence, she played for Tabor Academy.
