PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced last week that Providence College sophomore goaltender Sara DeCosta of Warwick, R.I. earned Second Team All-America accolades. This year marks the first time the American Women's College Hockey Alliance has sponsored two All-America Teams. The voting was conducted by the American Hockey Coaches Association, which also oversees the voting for the men's All-America intercollegiate hockey teams.

DeCosta, who received ECAC First-Team All-League honors in 1998-99, finished the season with a 14-11-3 mark, a 2.32 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. After earning ECAC Honorable Mention honors as a freshman in 1996-97, DeCosta took a break from her studies last year to help the U.S. Olympic Team capture the gold medal at the 1998 Nagano Olympic Games.

DeCosta is the daughter of Frank and Nancy DeCosta. Prior to attending Providence, she played for Toll Gate High School.
