New England Hockey Writers All-Star Team Announced

PROVIDENCE R.I. -- It was announced that Providence College women's ice hockey forwards senior Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and junior Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) were named to the 2004-05 New England Hockey Writers Divison I All-Star Team.

Zimmerman, a three-time HOCKEY EAST All-Star selection, was second on the team with 57 points (26 goals, 31 assists) and 15th in the nation with 1.51 points per game. Thatcher, the 2004-05 HOCKEY EAST Co-Player of the Year, led the team with a career-high 58 points (25 goals, 33 assists) this season. Thatcher was 10th in the nation with 1.81 points per game, and eighth in assists per game (1.03). Providence won their third consecutive HOCKEY EAST Tournament title and fourth straight league title including the ECAC Eastern Championship in 2002.

Zimmerman and Thatcher will be recognized along with the 10 other honorees at the 2005 New England Hockey Writers Annual Awards Banquet on Wednesday, April 13, at the Prince of Pizza Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The banquet will begin at 6:00 p.m.
