Providence, R.I. - Providence College junior foward Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) was named women's HOCKEY EAST Player of the Month for March. Thatcher earned her second player of the month honor this season, winning two in the last three months.

Thatcher, the 2004-05 HOCKEY EAST Co-Player of the Year, registered 10 points during the month of March. She concluded the 2004-05 campaign strong with a short-handed goal in the final minute of the last regular season game over Northeastern, solidifying a share of the league regular season title as well as the No. 1 seed in HOCKEY EAST tournament. In the tournament, Thatcher posted a single-game tournament record with five assists in the 9-1 defeat over Boston College. The following day in the finals, she added a late goal that ensured a 3-1 win over Connecticut on March 13, 2005.

Thatcher completed her junior season with a career-high 58 points on 25 goals and 33 assists. She finished sixth in the nation in power-play goals (13), seventh in assists per game (1.06), and ninth in points per game (1.87). Her 58 points tied her in 13th place with Kathy Lenahan (1979-80) on PC's all-time single season points list.
